Lotus Medallion in Brass on Dragon Skin Turquoise Necklace

These were so fun and spontaneous to make! I rolled out PMC and cut out my earring shape, then bent a brass circle cutter into more of an oval to start creating the pattern. What began as a light texture turned into cutting all the way through, building the design piece by piece by hand.

The original was not made by a computer or laser cutter — this was entirely handmade by me. I was so pleased at how symmetrical I was able to get it just by eye, and the open spaces keep the pieces lightweight and easy to wear.

After sharing them, someone suggested they looked like "Lotus Root" — and they were right. The lotus represents spiritual enlightenment, beauty, fertility, purity, prosperity and eternity. Because the lotus flower springs up from muddy and challenging surroundings, it has long symbolized hope and transcendence.
