VERMONT ROCKS! COLLECTION
This collection began on the shores of Lake Champlain while spending time exploring one of our favorite local beaches with my son. The shoreline there is scattered with these beautiful striped stones — known locally as “Wishing Stones,” though they are factually a form of Iberville Shale. The dark gray bands are shale, while the white stripes are calcite, formed nearly 500 million years ago when this entire region was still ocean. The same immense compression that shaped these stones also helped form the Green Mountains themselves.
I had so much fun collecting these treasures and then even more fun sorting, drilling, and seeing how I could work them into some of my designs. Every stone carries its own markings, balance, and natural character — each one completely unique.
These pieces seem to resonate especially strongly with those who feel connected to Vermont, nature, memory, and place. Each Vermont Rocks Pendant also gives back: $5 from every pendant sold is donated to the Lake Champlain Committee, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the health, accessibility, and future of Lake Champlain through education, advocacy, and collaborative environmental action.
