Phased Mezzaluna Earrings with Small Silver HOOPS AND BLADES
Limited Edition! I've made a very small batch of our familiar "Mezzaluna" designs with hand-stamped phases of the moon in each blade. This is a very time-consuming process - one wrong move and the piece is completely ruined... but totally worth it to reimagine the look of a few of these popular designs with one of my favorite motifs.
From The Original Mezzaluna Collection:
I keep seeing this shape, this circle and swoop everywhere. It’s a shape many of us are seeing (one friend sketched it for a woven purse and another had a similar design sideways on some pottery), what does it mean?? It’s similar to many designs I’ve always made, circles and crescents but there’s a FIERCENESS too it. These designs are still soft and round but sharp, they have more EDGE. They’re a little more dangerous, even weapon like.... They reminded me of a knife that looks like this. I searched online for “rocking herb knife” and came to find out that they’re called Mezzaluna knives. The word is Italian for Crescent Moon. Ahhh.
These special Mezzaluna Earrings are made with our largest-width, thin Mezzaluna Blades (Hammered Oxidized Sterling Silver fronts and backs below our contoured, Small Sterling Silver Hoops, linked with 2 jump rings to suspend the blades. Using my metal stamping tools I am able to create a customized curve of 7 symmetrical moon phases into each blade.
Hammered Blades: 2 1/2" wide x 3/8" tall/thick.
Small Contoured Silver Hoops are 1 1/2" wide x 1 1/8" tall.
These will hang 2 1/4" from Sterling Silver earwires to the bottoms of the blades
