Nebra Sky Disc Pendant: Sterling Silver on Afghani Turquoise

$175

In 2022 I was invited to be in a special Moon Circle and at our first gathering, there were 7 of us. 7 Sisters...SistArs. One of whom mentioned the Pleiades - in Greek mythology there are the seven daughters of Titans Atlas and Pleione and Zeus turned them into doves and set them into the heavens. I spent time researching the Pleiades which brought me to the Nebra Disk...

The Nebra sky disc is a bronze disc of around 12" diameter and a weight of 5lbs, having a blue-green patina and inlaid with gold symbols (see second photo). These symbols are interpreted as the Sun or full moon, a lunar crescent, and stars (including a cluster of seven stars interpreted as the Pleiades). Two golden arcs along the sides, interpreted to mark the angle between the solstices, were added later. A final addition was another arc at the bottom with internal parallel lines, which is usually interpreted as a solar boat or a rainbow or even the Aurora Borealis.

It features the oldest concrete depiction of astronomical phenomena known from anywhere in the world. In June 2013, it was included in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register and termed "one of the most important archaeological finds of the twentieth century."

So yeah, I definitely needed to make a pendant of the Nebra Disc! Here it is in brass and we will have them in Sterling Silver too! Hope you love this as much as I do!

Oxidized Sterling Silver Pendant is 1 1/8" diameter and is suspended on a 16" Afghani turquoise strand.
