Artemis Earrings with Emerald
My "Artemis" collection was inspired by the Greek Goddess of hunting, the wilderness and wild animals!
Artemis, in ancient Greek religion, was the goddess of wild animals, the hunt, vegetation and of chastity and childbirth. (She was identified by the Romans as Diana.) Artemis was the daughter of Zeus and Leto and was the twin sister of Apollo. Among the rural populace, Artemis was the favorite goddess! Her character and function varied greatly from place to place but behind all forms lay the goddess of wild nature who danced, usually accompanied by nymphs in mountains, forests, and marshes.
Artemis is most often depicted with a hunting bow. Equal parts feminine and badass warrior, my design for the Artemis earrings and necklaces features a hammered brass curved "bow", with Emerald in line forming the "string". The earrings feature oxidized sterling silver chains draped below the bow, mimicking the energy of the movement of a drawn and released bowstring. Silver heishi beads move freely along the bow, mimicking the arrow guide.
Being a stone of love and romance, Emerald will bring joy, enhance emotions, memory, faith and clairvoyance. It is said to benefit one’s intuition, promoting communication though truthfulness. Sacred stone to the Goddess Venus and associated with the Heart Chakra, it is told to preserve love, as well as acting as a symbol of hope. It is considered by many to be a great stone of prophecy, bringing wisdom and reason to the wearer. For many, Emerald acts like a tranquilizer for one’s trouble mind.
The width of the "string" of stones is 1 3/16" wide, the "bow" is 1 1/4" wide x 1 1/2" tall. These hang 4 1/2" from the sterling silver earwires to the bottoms of the silver chains.
