New Vermont Rocks! Collection
In searching for more meaning, in leaning more and more local and in honoring our beloved Vermont, I'm so excited to bring forth the Vermont Rocks! Collection. We've made 13 with Sterling Silver and 2 with Gold.
I love the simplicity of these paired with our forged bails and wire. You know I had to combine some with Moons!
I took my son to this lovely beach on Lake Champlain that is covered with these magical striped rocks. They are often called "Wishing Stones" but are actually called Iberville Shale. The dark gray is shale and the white stripes are calcite. They were first discovered in Iberville in Quebec. They are 400-500 million years old from when this was all ocean! The same compression that caused these rocks to form created the Green Mountains.
As far as the eye can see, in all directions, these stones are underfoot and I had so much fun collecting a small bag of these treasures. Such a simple task, such a great way to be in the moment. The sun was warm and geese were swimming and my son was skipping all the smooth flat ones that he could find. It was so calm and serene and so necessary for my mental health in these chaotic and uncertain time. There's nothing more grounding than sitting in a bunch of rocks...
Then I got to have more fun sorting and then drilling my first batch. I was so scared I would break them, or my drill bit or hurt myself but grew confident as I drilled one after another without them breaking. It was empowering!
We've made just 2 with 23.5K Gold Vermeil bails and 14k gold filled chain. All of these would make great gifts or treat yourself and wear and carry a little piece of Vermont wherever you go!
These pieces give back! I'll be donating $5 from every Vermont Rocks Pendant to the Lake Champlain Committee (LCC). They work for clean accessible water through science-based advocacy, education and collaborative action. They have a history of nearly 60 years as the region's only bi-state non-profit organization dedicated to lake health and accessibility.
