ARTEMIS NECKLACE With AMETHYST (AQUARIUS) Faceted Crystals!

$115

As part of my effort to incorporate birthstones into my collections, here is a lovely example from my new "AMETHYST / AQUARIUS" collection, incorporating my ARTEMIS design!

My "Artemis" collection was inspired by the Greek Goddess of hunting, the wilderness and wild animals!

Artemis, in ancient Greek religion, was the goddess of wild animals, the hunt, vegetation and of chastity and childbirth. (She was identified by the Romans as Diana.) Artemis was the daughter of Zeus and Leto and was the twin sister of Apollo. Among the rural populace, Artemis was the favorite goddess! Her character and function varied greatly from place to place but behind all forms lay the goddess of wild nature who danced, usually accompanied by nymphs in mountains, forests, and marshes. Artemis embodied the sportsman’s ideal, so besides hunting game she also protected game, especially the young; this was the Homeric significance of the title "Mistress of Animals".

Artemis is most often depicted with a hunting bow.

Equal parts feminine and badass warrior, my design for the Artemis earrings and necklaces features a hammered brass curved "bow", with Amethysts in line forming the "string". The earrings feature oxidized sterling silver chains draped below the bow, mimicking the energy of the movement of a drawn and released bowstring. Silver heishi beads move freely along the bow, mimicking the arrow guide.

Amethyst typically comes in shades of violet and purple. The spiritual meaning of Amethyst is groundedness, tranquility, and calm. The literal meaning of Amethyst is “not intoxicated” – its name translates from the Greek word améthystos. To this ancient, wise culture, the Amethyst crystal was of the utmost importance, and the myth associated with it still lives on inside it to this day.

The width of the "string" of amethysts is 1 1/4" wide, the "bow" is  1 1/2" wide x 1 1/2" tall, suspended by a 16" oxidized Sterling Silver chain.
